CHARLIE NICHOLAS has had a massive change of heart over Odsonne Edouard when only a few months prior the Sky Sports man was telling people he and Morelos were around the same level.
The pundit also blasted Eddy for looking not fussed in the smaller games and lacking the street fighter edge of Morelos.
He so wasn’t sure about claims being made about the striker being worth more than Moussa Dembele.
Speaking back in a September the former Celtic striker said:
“It’s as if he can’t be took fussed in the so-called lesser games.” Nicholas told SunSport.
“The thing that irritates me more than anything is his lack of celebration when he scores.
“It should be the greatest feeling in the world but Odsonne doesn’t show that.
“The Frenchman has shone on the big stage and he has a growing composure in front of goal.
“People are already saying he is better than Moussa Dembele, who left for £20m but I’m not so sure.”
“What Morelos has got is that bit of streetfighter in him that Edouard lacks in his game.” He added to SunSport.
We’re now five months on and contrary to Nicholas and his opinion, Eddy has been banging in goals in the so-called lesser games and has helped open up a gap at the top. With street fighter style striker Morelos unable to help his team at the start of the year because he was sent off for diving at Celtic Park.
Nicholas has now changed his tune.
“If I was Celtic I would be looking to add to that feel-good factor by giving him a new contract.” Charlie wrote in his Express Column as cited by SunSport.
“Odsonne Edouard is good enough to go and play at a Chelsea or a Manchester United.
“Reward him for what he is doing.
“You don’t even have to extend the length of his contract but put him up there as the top earner.
“Why not? It is not going to kill Celtic. They posted good financial figures, so why not use some of that money to strengthen their title bid?”
“For me, Edouard is a better footballer than the Lyon striker and his fellow Frenchman.”
What a turnaround of opinion. It’s better late than never but we’ve been seeing Edouard so his thing in the Celtic team for a while now and know his qualities inside and out.
Charlie speaks like someone who catches the odd Celtic game while forming his opinions through his English football pals.
Someone must have tipped him off about Edouard’s form. I wonder if the Frenchman is celebrating enough for his liking.
