Sky Sports man and former Celtic player Davie Provan has been left bemused Celtic and in-particular Neil Lennon didn’t try and re-sign Patrick Roberts after his ill-fated switch to Norwich didn’t work out.

Writing in his SunSport column, Provan believed bringing Patrick back into the club for the run in would have gave Celtic a boost as well as a viable option other than James Forrest on the right.

Roberts signed a new deal with Manchester City in the summer before heading out on loan to Norwich where he struggled for game time. That deal was cut short and the player was sent out to Championship side Middlesbrough. Provan believes Celtic should’ve at least asked the question.

“While we’re at it, why didn’t Celts take another loan punt on Patrick Roberts?

“The Manchester City winger has now been leased to Middlesbrough after flopping at Girona and Norwich.

“But with James Forrest struggling, Hoops fans would take Roberts back in a minute.

“Either way, I reckon Lennon would have chosen a proven goalscorer over 21-year-old Patryk Klimala any day.

“Trust me, that’s no reflection on the youngster who could yet turn out to be an inspired signing.

“In my day, the goals of a teenage Charlie Nicholas were priceless in getting us over the line.

“But Nick’s type are rare in football. If Edouard gets injured, Celts will be betting the farm on a boy with seven Poland Under-21 caps.

“Sure, it’s difficult to get the right players in January but this is no ordinary season.

“With a ninth consecutive title under threat, Celtic should be going the extra mile in this window.

“Instead, the board have reverted to type by buying potential.

“Even if Celts sell the young Pole for bundles further down the line, that won’t matter if this title goes to Ibrox.”

Neil Lennon was not at the club during Patrick Roberts’ two and a half years at the club. Ronny Deila brought the player in while Brendan Rodgers renewed his deal for another season.

Celtic were without James Forrest on Saturday night and Neil Lennon changed the whole dynamic of the team to accomodate injuries against Partick Thistle.

Will there be a wide player through the door before the end of the window? It certainly won’t be Roberts. Should Celtic have tried for the winger?

  1. Giving clown like Davy Provan air time is never a good idea.

What Davy Provan thinks or does is of no interest to me or many, many of the Celtic support.

Provan is one of the many who only speak about Celtic in the negative. Giving them airtime is never a good idea.

These cretins, Provan, Nicholas, Walker et al should be ignored, and hopefully they might slither off somewhere and suffer gruesome injuries to their larynx, rendering them mute and the loss of both upper body limbs where they can no longer type, ensuring that we no longer have to listen or read their uneducated an invalid opinions.

Giving them airtime on Celtic sites, as i may have mention in the previous paragraph, is never a good idea.

    Knock it on the head.
