Davie Provan has again aimed his anger at the board and their lack of accountability in what’s been a tumultuous 12 months for the club where the fans have financially propped up the club like never before.

Provan asks the question why Peter Lawwell is still involved with the club. What does the former Celtic man and Sky Sports commentator know?

In his column he calls Neil Lennon the boards fall guy and again blasts the decision to keep Neil in the position for so long after he passed his sell by date.

There’s not a lot of love out there for Provan because his constant negativity when it comes to his former club but has he got it spot on this time.

Writing in his SunSport column, Provan said:

If Neil Lennon was the board’s fall guy when the season turned pear-shaped, the board has to answer questions of their own performance.

Was it wise for Dermot Desmond to stand by Lenny for so long when he was obviously finished after the Ross County defeat in the League Cup?

That result came after a second 4-1 hiding from Sparta Prague in the Europa League days earlier.

That was when Lenny should have been shown the door, but he limped on for another three months.

Equally questionable was the lengthy pursuit of Eddie Howe that ended in embarrassment.

Desmond should have blown the whistle on Howe long before he backed out.

More embarrassment followed in the resignation of Dominic McKay. Why would McKay quit his dream job after just ten weeks?

While we’re at it, why is Peter Lawwell still involved after stepping down as chief executive?

No apology for repeating myself here, but Lawwell inherited a team that had just contested a European final. Having been lavishly rewarded, he handed an apology of a dressing room to McKay.

Not that you’d know it listening to Bankier, who described finishing 25 points behind Rangers as an “operational highlight”. Does the sun shine on planet Bankier?

Celtic fans had to read ‘runners-up’ in the SPFL last season as a highlight during the clubs financial statement. A peculiar thing to add into things and Bankier must have known this wouldn’t have been received well.

The board have made a lot of major decisions that have gone wrong, Dermot Desmond doesn’t believe he’s accountable to anyone – who can we get answers from at the club?

The lack of transparency and the perceived closed shop at board level is concerning.

Peter Lawwell is still on a non-exec board and the line we’ve had from Celtic is the former chief exec needs to have an attachment to the club to continue to be on the board at the ECA – the organisation that drives change for European football.
