If you weren’t tuned into the bizarre world of Scottish football, you would almost think it’s bizarre that a former rival player spends so much of his time talking about Celtic; that’s the constant situation we find ourselves in when it comes to Kris Boyd.
The lad constantly talks about Celtic issues, and our shortcomings while predicting his former club are on their way back on a regular basis.
Predicting in December that the end was nigh for Celtic and their dominance, we now sit in June with Celtic champions and the former Killie player now having a pop at Celtic over a very straight forward contract issue.
Craig Gordon has been offered reduced terms to stay at Celtic. His current deal finished this summer and while the club has released two players without offering them a deal, they have put a contract in front of Craig.
At 37, Gordon is not even a first team player anymore, so it stands to reason, any deal to keep him would be on reduced terms.
However, Boyd uses this as a stick to beat Celtic and believes the club should be more loyal to a player who rejected being a Chelsea backup keeper three years ago.
“He could have left the club and signed a huge, mega-money contract with Chelsea just a few years ago.” Boyd told Sunsport.
“But Craig chose to stay and let his heart rule his head.
“Yet here he is, out of contract and almost out on his ear.
“After six unbelievably successful years he’s been offered a new deal on vastly reduced wages.
“From experience, I’d say it’s the type of offer Celtic know he’s going to turn down.
“Neil Lennon doesn’t seem to rate him, does he? Not really.”
It’s how football works, and the former player knows this. There’s no room for sentiment when it comes to the business end of football. Craig has been a magnificent servant but to offer him the same deal he got three years ago would not be logical or reasonable.
