SKY SPORTS PUNDIT and former Celt Charlie Nicholas has reverted to type and gave Celtic no chance of getting out of France with a positive result.
Nicholas is notorious for talking the club down and he’s stayed true to form with his Europa League prediction.
The tanning bed expert says Celtic will NOT threaten on the night and we still have defensive injuries. He must be referring to Jozo Simunovic who will undergo knee surgery.
However, it shows you how much he’s paying attention as Jozo would have likely sat on the bench for Celtic on Thursday had he been fit with Ajer and Jullien preferred.
“Rennes have started very well in Ligue 1. I am hoping that M’Baye Niang will not be playing.” Nicholas told SkySports as cited by SunSport.
“He is lightning quick, almost a lesser version of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. These guys can play and move, and that is what Celtic struggle against.
“Celtic will be good on the counter-attack, but their reputation is always the same.
“They get scared when they travel away from home. They don’t know where to pitch their defence and whether to play a squeezing game or not.
“They will have technically gifted players and pace out wide, where they will look to exploit. Celtic still have defensive injuries and will not threaten here.”
Celtic are in for a tough night but to say we won’t threaten at all here is going out your way to be negative. Celtic smasked AIK 6-1 on aggregate to get to this round, they got out of a very tough group last season and have shown this term on their day they can be a handful for anyone.
Nicholas is too scared of bigging up his former club with all his Sky Sports mates listening.
