Former Celtic striker Andy Walker believes that the gap between Celtic and Rangers will grow even wider.
The Hoops picked up the first silverware of the season after defeating Michael Beale’s side 2-1 in the final of the Viaplay Cup thanks to two goals from Japanese forward Kyogo Furuhashi.
Sunday’s victory meant that Celtic have now picked up three out of four domestic trophies under Ange Postecoglou and look in pole position to make that four out of five as they currently sit top of the Scottish Premiership with a nine point lead.
Celtic’s goal difference is also huge and pundit Walker reckons their advantage at the top of the table will only increase in the coming months even though there are still two derby matches remaining in the league.
The form of the team in the league has also been incredible having only lost once in their previous 58 matches.
He also believes that Beale will struggle to compete against Celtic next season due to the Hoops spending power and position which they find themselves in as the squad is pretty much where the manager wants it which totally contrasts the position the Ibrox club is in.
“Ange Postecoglou is just used to winning. I think you are right to highlight that nine point gap,” said Walker speaking on [Sky Sports News].
“I think it will only get bigger. Celtic are on an astonishing run since they lost that game last September to St Mirren, but they bounced back so well from that defeat. They have got a nine point gap and they have still got Rangers to play a couple of times in the league, home and away, and I can only see them adding to that lead. The Scottish Cup can go anywhere, as anyone can win in 90 minutes. I don’t think anyone at Celtic will speak about it publicly but they will certainly have their eye on yet another Treble.”
It will be one game at a time for Postecoglou who will be fully focused on the next match against St Mirren in Paisley who remain the only Scottish side to have beaten the Hoops this season.
Andy walkers right hope when we play St mirren we will still be 9 points clear but we will extend lead even bookies won’t take bets on the points total after celtic win another four trophies wipe old co history off all books not only dead no record of them
