CELTIC have been linked with a move for Irish defender Luca Connell over the past month or so with reports claiming the defender is on Neil Lennon’s hit list.

Connell, 18, has yet to sign a professional contract with his current side Bolton and is available for a small FIFA compensation fee of around 240k which we reported on this morning.

Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas has confirmed the approach has been made by the Scottish Champions for the defender.

Bolton are currently in administration and could really use any money coming in to help service their massive debt. With Luca not being on a professional deal, they will not get what the player is worth.

Celtic have approached the club directly when they are not obligated to at this stage. They are within their rights to talk directly to Luca and his representatives.

The highly-rated teen was called up to the Republic of Ireland squad for a training camp this year and looks to have a bright future in the game.

With a fee for Turnbull already accepted by Motherwell, talks ongoing with French defender Christopher Jullien and now young Luca – Celtic are sending out a major statement of intent and Peter Lawwell doesn’t seem to be messing about.
