FORMER Celtic player Marc Rieper has spoken to the Herald about the ongoing Celtic manager situation and he believes he knows the perfect candidate for the club going forward.

The defender has been watching Celtic from afar but believes if Neil Lennon isn’t the man for Celtic in the summer then Slaven Bilic would be a fantastic appointment.

Rieper revealed he has had chats about Celtic with the 50-year-old Croatian.

“I’ve spoken to him before about Celtic being a massive club and he’s really aware of that. I think he’d fit the bill there.

“Slaven would fit in at any club in Europe, I think he’s a really good manager and a really nice person.

“He’s proven himself both in Croatia and in the Premier League. I think West Ham were premature getting rid of him but that’s the way it goes if you lose a few games.”

Bilic was let go at West Ham in November 2017 after originally doing very well with the London side.

The manager was linked with a move to Celtic almost ten years ago around the same time Tony Mowbray got the job. It remains to be seen if there would be any genuine interest from either party but it certainly something fresh.

Very few fans have a desire to see the likes of Davie Moyes take over from Brendan Rodgers and right now the fans are split on a full time Neil Lennon appointment.

As always with Celtic since the Millenium, there’s only one man who will control who becomes the next Celtic manager and while we all can speculate it will be down to Dermot Desmond to decide.

  1. I have been saying for months, in fact I am sure I said on here, that I couldn’t believe bilic had never been considered as a possible candidate. I think he’d be a perfect fit for our club. At the very least he should be on the list.
