We have had stick over the past few weeks about watching specific Celtic targets on social media. It may seem trivial and silly to some, but the way we find out news is changing on a daily basis.

One of the significant changes is the way social media helps play out a timeline of events and if you’ve not been hiding under a rock the past two weeks – you will know the information we get from some tech-savvy players gives us a subtle hint of what’s going on.

Both Timothy Weah and Vakoun Issouf Bayo ‘FOLLOWED’ the club on their social media streams just days before signing. The implication being, they start following the club when they know the deal is about to be done or is in its final stages.

It’s not always the case, but it can be a huge indicator.

We reported about Celtic’s interest in American full-back Andrew Gutman and the potential of the 22-year-old coming into the club to play back-up to Kieran Tierney.

Well last night, he started following the club on his Twitter page. You may laugh, but after the past two signings, all bets are off! Is he the next player to come through the doors of Celtic Park, via Dubai?

When Rodgers was asked about Gutman specifically this is what he said to SunSport:

“Some of the boys are young guys or project signings for the club that can’t come in straight away.

“But there’s nothing really to add on that.”

The left-back just won the best College footballer in the USA award earlier this week and could be a valuable asset.

  1. It’s great to be looking to the future, & snapping up potential, but I’d like to see us buy an established name, who could come into the first team now & make us better.. Hail, Hail!!
