Since Ola Solbakken put on a show against Celtic, many fans have clamoured for Celtic to sign the winger from Bodo/Glimt.
The speculation was so strong leading up to the summer’s transfer window we exclusively reached out to the player’s agent. They told CeltsAreHere Celtic had been offered Solbakken’s services back when Ange Postecoglou first took over, but the bhoys opted to go for Liel Abada.
Since then, Ola’s name has never been far away from a Celtic rumour. However, we can finally put that to bed this month with the news coming out of Roma that he’s about to sign for the Serie A side. [Fabrizio Romano]
The winger is set to sign on a free transfer with his Bodo contract up at the end of this year.
Celtic Rumours and Fact
Has Celtic ever made a legitimate play for Sol Solbakken?
The short answer is no. While the player has been constantly linked with the Hoops, there’s never been a formal approach from Celtic’s end.
As we noted, his agents were keen to get Ola a move back in the summer of 2021, but The Bhoys rebuffed the offer. It would come back to haunt us when he played two sensational games against the Hoops in the UEFA Conference league.
Was Celtic correct to rebuff Ola’s agents?
I think Celtic had already set their hearts on Liel Abada and made the Israeli winger their priority. While Solbakken would have been a good get, it’s safe to say choosing Liel was an astute decision at the time. The winger greatly contributed to Celtic’s title triumph last season and continues to progress on the field.
Ola, 24, could have a great future in the game, with the move to Roma most certainly going to make him a better player.
Can’t believe those making these decisions at the club blanked Solbakken in favour of Abada!
