Celtic target Sondre Ørjasæter has broken his silence on speculation linking him with a move to Parkhead before the January transfer window closes.

The Sarpsborg winger has been heavily linked with a switch to the Scottish champions, with reports in Norway suggesting the Hoops have been in talks for several weeks. Reports have stated that Celtic had made contact with the Norwegian club as early as December, and Sarpsborg’s sporting director Hampus Andersson recently admitted that keeping hold of Ørjasæter beyond January was their priority.

However, Brendan Rodgers played down the speculation when pressed about the player ahead of Celtic’s Champions League clash against Aston Villa, insisting he was “not aware” of any reported bid.

Now, the player himself has addressed the growing transfer talk in his homeland, keeping his cards close to his chest.

Asked directly about Celtic’s interest, Ørjasæter said: [SA] “Of course, it’s cool that big clubs are interested. But I don’t want to comment on rumours.”

“It doesn’t affect me at all. I just try to relax, train well every day, and have fun with the guys on the team.”

Celtic have been in the market for attacking reinforcements throughout the January window, with the club already re-signing Jota from Al-Ittihad and continuing to monitor potential deals for Mathias Kvistgaarden and others.

Ørjasæter fits Celtic’s profile as a young, talented, and versatile winger. However, Sarpsborg have made it clear they would prefer to keep him until at least the summer, unless an offer in the region of £7m changes their stance.

With Luis Palma’s future still uncertain, and Jota needing time to get back up to speed, it remains to be seen whether Celtic will firm up their interest in the Norway U21 international before the window slams shut.
