MICHAEL STEWART has told Celtic fans to get excited about a potential move for David Turnbull and that he’s not one for the future but a player who can make an immediate impact at the club.

We all know the story about David’s failed move to Celtic last season but this time around Stewart believes the club will get this deal over the line. The fear of missing out on the midfielder like Celtic did with John McGinn a few seasons back will be the driving force behind a deal in the pundit’s opinion.

With the news about interest in Tom Rogic, Stewart believes Celtic will use any money from that deal to make sure Turnbull becomes a Celt.

“Tom Rogic looks on his way out with money coming in for the Aussie international.” Stewart told SunSport.

“And that’s why I would expect them to try to do a deal sooner rather than later.

“Over the past week, I’ve seen chat from Celtic fans on social media happy enough with the move. But I don’t think these supporters actually realise just how good this kid is — and how good he could be.

“They spoke about McGinn the same way, that he was one for the future more than now.

“The general impression seemed to be he was good, but would he have gone there and started?

“It looks a stupid question now — of course he would have. For me Turnbull is a ready-made Celtic first-team player.

“I know the competition is stiff there with guys like Olivier Ntcham not starting every week.

“But Turnbull is of that level now, never mind two, three or four years down the line.”

Celtic had a £3.25m bid in place and accepted by Motherwell over a year ago [Sunsport]. We’re wondering if that will come back into play.

Neil Lennon was desperate to land him last summer, so much so they even offered to loan the midfielder so they could oversee his knee injury and rehab. That sort of interest doesn’t go away and his start to the season means talks are inevitable.
