Once Ange Postecoglou became the front runner for the Celtic job, most supporters following the Celtic managerial saga assumed Fergal Harkin was the man behind the move.

Harkin had been tipped to take over as Celtic’s director of football for the last few months and the links between himself, the City group and Postecoglou looked too strong to ignore.

However, before the official appointment of Ange to the Celtic hot seat, it became clear Fergal wouldn’t be joining the club after all.

This led to Celtic fans deriding the club for failing to get another deal over the line after the Eddie Howe fiasco.

Sky Sports journalist and Celtic Fan, Anthony Joseph delivered some insight into the breakdown of Harkin’s failed move to the Hoops.

Speaking on the Only as Good as Your Last Game Podcast, Joseph said:

“It didn’t work out with Fergal Harkin, he chose to stay at Man City. Sources close to Celtic say that he wasn’t officially offered the job; talks took place – if he was offered the job, it might have been informally, but he was certainly talking to Celtic for quite some time and that hasn’t materialised.

“I’d imagine Celtic still want to modernise. Dom McKay is very much someone who is known to be looking at modernising things like he’s done with the SRU.”

The plot now thickens with Ange Postecoglou coming in and being named as the ‘Football manager’ of the club and not the ‘Head coach’ as one would assume was the case if a DoF was going to be heading to the club.

Have Celtic given up their chase for a DoF or are they biding their time? Nicky Hammond has been moved on so who is the go to scout at the club right now? So many questions that need answers.

  1. Every player at CELTIC now starts with a clean slate with our new manager, who should ignore any recommendations from Kennedy and Strachan who should have both gone at the end of the season.
