SOUTHAMPTON haven’t been shy in bringing in players from Celtic in recent years and it looks as if the club scouts have their eye on another move involving the Scottish Champions.

With former Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk moving to Liverpool for an astronomical amount you can’t blame the St Mary’s side for thinking their next big player is north of the border.

Celtic also benefitted greatly from Virgil becoming the most expensive defender in football, so any deals have been mutually beneficial over the years.

With that in mind, the Southampton scouts are taking a long look at Erik Sviatchenko as they look to bolster their backline.

Erik made it clear this week that the manager has told him he has no future at the club and can look at other options, providing Celtic get their valuation for the Dane.

Southampton and Copenhagen are interested in Sviatchenko’s services with neither side making a formal approach to the club yet but have had reported talks with Erik’s agent.

Erik is a player who is much loved by the Celtic support, since Boyata’s rise to prominence he has found game time hard to come by. Many felt after his latest injury that he would be given his chance to shine again but Brendan Rodgers is not keen on that idea.

Southampton would certainly be a great destination for the player if he is to leave this month.
