It’s the hot topic in football surrounding every league – how will everything be wrapped up if no more football can be played?

St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin believes it’s football can’t return this season – Celtic and Dundee Utd should be crowned champions because they’re so far in front.

The Buddies boss says he doesn’t envy the decision which might need to be made but was clear the common sense outcome would be to declare champions to runaway leaders in Celtic and Dundee Utd in the championship.

“I wouldn’t want to be in Ian Maxwell or Neil Doncaster’s shoes.” Goodwin told RecordSport.

“We’re all in a difficult situation and I can only imagine what clubs like Celtic, Hearts and Dundee United are going through.

“But if the season can’t be finished then I see no problem with Celtic or United being proclaimed champions – they’re so far ahead and have been out in front for months.

“Relegation would seem unfair on Hearts though as they still have a fighting chance of staying up.”

Celtic want the games to be played, if they can.

Beyond the decision of titles and relegations, the governing bodies must do their utmost to make sure no clubs hit the wall in the coming months because of no revenue coming in.

  1. Even School kids understand how this works out, every team is awarded a draw for all games left to play top team is winner only bottom team goes down and no play offs..and then the rainy day money saved by SPFL over the seasons can help out clubs that need cash help…

  2. The present tables are final no relegation 2 get promoted ,next season if there is one 3 gets relgated till it reaches the set up?
