Sadly, the only report that has been published with even a small amount of accuracy is what the Coronavirus number of confirmed new daily cases and deaths are. Absolutely nobody on the planet knows what happens next.

This is a health crisis that can only be pushed back from a health perspective. It can not be solved by economics. The world’s finances have to take a back seat, that is another day’s work but with each passing day comes new financial implications.

From a sporting perspective, not one person is saying anything positive. Dark days are ahead for sporting organisations all around the globe. Chris Sutton has used his Record column this morning to highlight the “drastic measures” needed by clubs in Scotland if they are to survive.

Sutton highlighted Ross County’s claim that they might need to let 50% to 60% per of their players go on the unemployment list. Sutton also used an airlines model of a 45% wage cut for two years so pilots can keep their jobs and go back on full pay eventually.

This is the former strikers say on what need’s to happen over the next two years in the football world.

“Footballers across Scotland are about to face a horrendous dilemma.

“Lufthansa pilots have just announced they are taking a 45 per cent pay cut for the next TWO YEARS just to try to save their employer and have a job to go back to when this is all over.”

“These are the grim facts for workers post coronavirus. And this is the type of sacrifice Scotland’s players and their bosses are about to face in the medium term. If clubs cannot open the doors to fans for the next few months, there is simply no cash for normal wages and the choices are going to be brutal and stark.”

“Take the hit and survive. Or see your club possibly go under.”

How many footballers could afford to live the life they were living with a 45% wage cut for two years?

It is completely unpredictable how Celtic will come through this pandemic. The club just signed a record-breaking kit sponsorship deal with Adidas but how much of that income will be used to keep the club ticking over?
