It has been confirmed this morning that professional football in Scotland will resume this weekend [Scottish FA].

Fixtures last weekend were postponed across the country due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II but it has now been confirmed that football will return.

There was much anger from many football fans over the weekend as other sports went ahead but they are now set to return.

If any fixtures fall on Monday 19 September they will be rescheduled.

This news means that Celtic’s away fixture to St Mirren will go ahead with a noon kick-off.

Before the match, the decision will lie solely with St Mirren in whether there is any remembrance acts.

It would appear from the statement issues this morning that it will be optional for clubs to mark the late Monarch’s passing with either black armbands or a minutes silence.

At present, the fixture calendar is absolutely rammed due to the World Cup being held late in November.

Any further postponements would have caused further issues for clubs with a hectic calendar already in place.

The Hoops will return to action on Wednesday evening as they take on Shakhtar Donetsk in Warsaw in matchday two of the Champions League.
