There will be no reconstruction within the Scottish game for next season at least with the BBC reporting the failure of the reconstruction talks on Monday morning.

It is being reported that only 16 clubs backed the new proposal which would have seen the SPFL Premiership move to a 14 team league.

This had to garner the support from the majority of clubs to be viable but no consensus has been reached.

What does this mean?

Hearts are heading to the championship and will be relegated under the current circumstances.

Ann Budge threatened legal action of reconstruction didn’t take place and with this new attempt looking dead in the water – will the Hearts chief now take the legal steps?

Any move to do this could hold up the league season while Hearts tangle the governing body in a court battle.

Celtic are back in training ahead of the new season which is due to kick-off at the start of August. If a legal battle ensues, this could be problematic for clubs aiming for the current date.
