AIK’s Sporting Director Bjorn Wesstrom has told the media Celtic star Mikael Lustig will not decide his future now until the end of the season after he was hopeful of getting a pre-contract deal in place before then for the defender it has emerged.

Bjorn has been told if the club really wants their man they will have to wait until everything is done and dusted on the park for Celtic.

The bhoys still have to wrap up their eighth consecutive league title as well as play in the Scottish Cup semi-final on Sunday afternoon. Lustig looks like he still has a big part to play in the Celtic side until then.

“As I understand it, he wants to concentrate on ending the season with Celtic as strongly as possible. He has a job to do there. Both him and Celtic.” said Wesstrom.

“When Mikael indicates to us what he has decided to do with regards to his future, we will take the next step.

“So the situation is that we have made contact, but we are not in the next phase yet.”

Brendan Rodgers was actively looking for Mikael’s longterm replacement in the last two windows, coming up short in deals for Cristiano Piccini and Timothy Castagne. The club did manage to get Jeremy Toljan through the door from Dortmund on loan but the player has had mixed reviews since joining in January.
