Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart provided an honest and passionate assessment in the aftermath of Celtic’s 3-2 loss over Bayer Leverkusen.

The Hoops shot-stopper was quick to mention that there were plenty of positives to take away from the disappointing loss in Germany, insisting that the squad aren’t just in European competition to take part and want to test themselves on this sort of level.

“We need to keep that character going. There are lots of positives of course but I think we have to be real. We’re trying to create something where we’re not here to take part but really compete,” Hart said, speaking to Virgin Media Sport.

“We did that for most of the game and look what happened to us. It’s very frustrating but we’re learning as a group. The supporters are with us and we appreciate that but we can’t take that for granted. No more nights like this.

“You have to learn. I’m old enough now to not come out here and say we’ll lose our minds over a loss, we’re not. We’ll dust ourselves down. But we have to learn. It’s such an easy thing to say but we have to learn.

“And we will. We’ve got a good coaching staff. We’ve got a manager who wants to create something. We’re all buying into it where we can be told where can do better and what we can improve. We really need to open our eyes and open our ears. We’re not getting a huge opportunity to train with how the games come so we have to learn in the classroom.”

With this assessment, Hart really hits the nail on the head when it comes to talking about Ange Postecoglou’s side after Thursday nights fixture.

We went over to face a top side in Germany, taking the game to them and were unfortunate not to take anything away from the game.

Overall, there are some real good signs within this Celtic side, with not many supporters expecting this much progress at such an early stage in the Ange Postecoglou era.

With characters like Hart in the dressing room, that will only continue to grow as we see more and more improvements in this group of players.

  1. Well Said it’s early days yet Hopefully the Manager and his Staff can address the The Passing back all the time and putting the keeper under pressure is no way to be winning games. And need to be watching players around them all the time.
