It’s crazy to write this considering we’re on course for a double treble but the squad is in need of some freshening up come the summer.

Not wholesale changes, but getting rid of some deadwood and some wantaway players to bring in some fresh faces who are hungry to perform.

We’ve already reported on Stuart Armstong’s potential departure which would free up money and space. But another player we should be looking to get rid of this summer is Cristian Gamboa.

It’s clear Rodgers signed the right back to be Lustig’s understudy but in the games where Lustig hasn’t played and Cristian has been fit – he’s not really got a look in.

There’s been the odd performance where the Costa Rica international has put in a decent shift and I’m positive there will be Celtic fans out there who believe he’s not been given a fair crack at the whip, but, if Rodgers is not going to use the bhoy, even sparingly then it’s time to move him on.

Gamboa played 21 times for Celtic last season but this year he’s only had 3 appearances so far.

Right back is a problem area for Celtic, with Mikael Lustig running out of juice that’s made the Swede a success in the role over many years, it’s incumbent on the manager to find someone for the position full time.

Lustig would be more than capable of being a back up to whoever came in. It’s thought that Rodgers is high on Anthony Ralston who went out on-loan to Dundee Utd last week. Ralston may get the first crack of the whip.

What is certain though is Gamboa should be moved on, again to let the player go find first team football and free up space in the team in order for some new faces to come in.

With the full back coming into the last year of his contract, the time is right.

  1. It is not crazy at all. Celtic are in the position we are in because we have no competition, not because we are a good side. New Rangers have beaten Aberdeen 3 times this season and will hammer them at Pittodrie, while Hibernian have beaten Aberdeen and Rangers twice. they are all beating each other whole we are drawing with every other team. If one of them had a bit more bottle we would be in a title race. not only that celtic have been woeful to watch. There is far too much delusion amongst our own support about where we are at the moment. I think this may have a bearing on Rodger’s decisions in the summer. We are in trouble if either Arsenal or Chelsea offer him a job because he will take it, especially if he wins the treble again. because there is nothing for him to achieve that is achievable. Too many supporters talking about the unbeaten run and last seasons treble, both are in the past. The future is worrying. On present form only Aberdeen of the top four are in worse form than us. We have scored two goals less than an absolutely hopeless New rangers team over the course of the whole season. We have not won four games in a row at all this season. We have not went on a winning run once this season. That is not Championship winning form, but we are 10 points ahead because the rest are so bad. Lustig, Gamboa, Boyata, Simunovic, Sinclair, Armstrong and Dembele should move on in the summer and the team needs to be rebuilt. Most of these players won’t get much in the way of transfer fees. If we get 15 mil for Dembele it will be a miracle. The rest will be lucky to get a mill. Lustig and Boyata should be freed. Allowing Ralston to go to Dundee Utd is confusing as clearly he should be the right back at Celtic. They won’t buy one that is for sure. Rodgers will have his work cut out creating a new team out of nothing. He might not fancy it as much as getting a shed load of cash in London. But to go into next season playing some of these guys, after this seasons performances at home and in Europe, would be suicide.

      • Good Point Jim brendan has done an outstanding job, we’re on the verge of most historical achievement in the history of Scottish football, a double treble 1 an invisible 1 and this 1 more of a grafted 1. Its board who need to back him with improved players to join some of the quality we definately already have.

  2. Ah John some of your points are correct were not playing well, but after last season its not that surprising as some players have played for 2 years with no break. We also have guys like Bitton, gamboa, boyata, simunovic, De Vries and youngsters like McCart, Hill and thomson who should all go. Armstrong after 8 years in Scotland looks like a guy who needs sold now, sinclair should go not cos he’s not good enough but the racist abuse he gets and his family situation are clearly getting to him and Dembele deserves another season. Totally disagree with u on ralston, where this myth he is good enough to play comes from I don’t know, he’s poor technically, is a bad passer, poor positional and is rash when tackling, the boy needs more experience and needs to improve massively to ever get in team as IMO he’s no better than gamboa, if he 2as as good as u say he’d not be at utd he’d be playing. Dembele by a country mile is our best striker and has shown it in the big games time and again. We need a decent rest, a new keeper (Bain) a centre back, a right back, a midfielder, and maybe a striker if Dembele leaves and hopefully we can sign Roberts permanently.
