SPFL new boys ST MIRREN are trying to pull off a signing which would most certainly be classed as a transfer coup if they manage to pull it off.

Reports today suggest Alan Stubbs has made an inquiry for Celtic super Kid Mikey Johnston who only yesterday spoke of the possibility of going out on-loan this season.

The young attacking midfielder has had a fantastic pre-season and has certainly caught the manager’s attention. However, with so much competition in that are at the moment, it’s very likely Brendan Rodgers will opt to send his young star out on-loan to gain vital first team experience much like he did with Kristoffer Ajer.

Ajer is now a mainstay in the first team after a successful loan spell at Kilmarnock and Mikey could look to take this route at the same time helping St Mirren fill an attacking space left by new Celtic bhoy Lewis Morgan.

Mikey could be a revelation in Paisley and prepare himself for the rigours of an SPFL season. It seems like a win-win.
