BT and BBC Sport pundit, Michael Stewart has called for Celtic striker, Leigh Griffiths to receive a recall to the Scotland National side and he believes he could be the man to fire them to the first major tournament in over 20 years.

As reported by the Sun, Stewart thinks Griffiths is exactly what this side needs, to defeat Serbia next month and take them to Euro 2020.

”Leigh Griffiths showed last week he can still score a goal out of absolutely nothing.

“Now Steve Clarke has to take the striker with him to Serbia to give us something to believe in next month.”

”But we don’t have to play anti-football to reach the finals — and that’s where Griffiths comes in for me.

“I’ll be honest, I was staggered he wasn’t in the squad in the first place. His goal at St Johnstone last week was enough to get him back in the frame, for me.

At the moment, the only two strikers Scotland have are Oli McBurnie and Lyndon Dykes, who both featured from the start on Thursday night.

Griffiths could find himself, extremely unfortunate that this tie wasn’t played on its original date, back in March before the Coronavirus pandemic hit.

Since then, he has struggled with a few problems such as fitness which has seen him left out of several squads.

In recent weeks, he has made a return though and even managed to come on as a sub last Sunday and score a crucial goal for the hoops against St Johnstone.

There is no doubt that Griffiths could be a crucial figure for this Scotland side when it comes to qualifying next month. The only thing we need to worry about is if he can stay fit enough to play.

  1. I agree it may come down to a set piece 20 odd meters out and he Griffiths is the best bet but he also thinks that split second faster than most when in and around box plus he can score goals that others just do not see from distance in open play..

He is a top player and he is a must if fit to play..

  2. Surely with Bitton, Eduoard and Christie missing the Game vs them Celtic must refuse to allow therir players to play for their national sides until this pandemic is under control. International football is meaningless garbage while we have a very important title to play for. Why are supporters being charged huge sums, and as well as not being in the stadium a second string is playing important fixtures. This cannot be allowed again, why are FIFA and UEFA allowing stupid internationals with no supporters, dragging players thousands of miles for nothing. And that includes Scotlands game against Serbia. Who cares? I don’t know a single Celtic supporter who thinks qualifying for the crappy Euros is more important than the ten. So stand up for the supporters for once Celtic.
