STAN PETROV spoke on today’s Celtic huddle podcast and it’s fair to say he wasn’t impressed with the Celtic manager after his press conference on Monday.

The host of the podcast, Mark Wilson asked the Bulgarian if Neil Lennon was right to come out and specifically ask Andy Walker for an apology or anyone in the press for that matter.

Stan was honest, almost to a fault with what he had to say:

“No, listen when you’re manager of Celtic, when you make decisions, right or wrong, you expect people to come out and analyse it.”

“People don’t have to apologise to Neil Lennon, I have played with Neil, I have a great relationship with him, but sometimes when you have to talk about the truth, you don’t have to go and seek apologies from everybody else, just be man.

“Go, apologise, we got things wrong, we’ve learned from it, what we can do now is just go and perform.

“This is me as a former player, someone who supports Celtic and watches them every week.

“I don’t want the manager of Celtic or the club to go and ask for apologies from someone in the media. Celtic as a club, and the individual who work for this club are better than that.

“Me as a former player, you don’t go ask and other people for an apology, you should be above that”

Those are pretty strong words from a guy who calls Neil Lennon a friend. It speaks to the issue of Neil being detached from the perception outside. The manager feels he’s being attacked and instead of being measured he’s lashing out.

The stress of the Celtic job has to be taking its toll on the manager for sure. However, he had almost two weeks to be ready for the Monday press conference and instead of being measured he went in there with the attitude he was going to put the world to rights.

It was unprofessional and actually aided the cause of the people who claim the manager has brought down the professionalism of the club.

  1. Petrov, is this the same Petrov who demanded a transfer to the EPL and then when he became ill crawled back to Celtic park in order to get another pay day from those mugs who were dumb enough to pony up?

    That Petrov?
