Stilliyan Petrov is one player who understands the pressure surrounding a move from Celtic to the English Premier League. Petrov wore the Hoops for seven years at Paradise and dug his heels in when the time came to get a move to Aston Villa for a reported 7m pounds.

That move still leaves a bad taste for some Celtic fans but Petrov is a good product of one of the Scottish’s games exports to England. Celtic look to be on the brink of one the SPFL’s biggest ever exports to the EPL. Arsenal wants the Hoops golden Bhoy Keiran Tierney at the Emirates. Last night it was reported that the London club finally matched Celtic’s 25m transfer valuation for the left-back.

Petrov has been giving his opinion on the situation for the club and player.

Speaking with the Sunday Post he said:

“There comes a point in the careers of footballers that they weigh things up and make important decisions.

“Kieran Tierney may be in that position in this transfer window. If he goes, then the club will get excellent money for him. If he stays, then they are holding on to a quality footballer.

“But these are the kind of matters that you want to be resolved as soon as possible. It’s important to know where you stand and what needs to be done.”

Celtic fans might be hoping against hope that Tierney will stick around and help the Bhoys secure nine-in-a-row and qualify for European competition. Neil Lennon has already signed a left-back in this transfer window but Celtic would still be short at the back if KT leaves. It’s not like he won’t be worth 25m in a years time.
