Stephen McGowan believes Celtic will open the chequebook before the transfer window closes and predicts as many as four new faces could arrive at Parkhead.

The Herald journalist, who has a strong track record when it comes to inside information from the club, says the champions aren’t done yet despite already bringing in seven signings this summer.

Brendan Rodgers has bolstered his squad with the arrivals of Callum Osmand, Shin Yamada, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, Kieran Tierney, Benji Nygren, Hayato Inamura and Ross Doohan. But glaring gaps remain, particularly in the wide areas. Celtic’s lack of depth on the wings has been obvious from the outset of the window – something Rodgers himself has acknowledged.

The manager has also hinted at his desire to add another striker to challenge Adam Idah, despite already signing Osmand and Yamada and tying Johnny Kenny down to a new deal.

Celtic’s biggest outlay so far has been just £1.5 million for Yamada, but McGowan expects that to change. Writing in The Herald, he stated: “Celtic will spend money between now and the end of the window, probably on four new players.”

With the Champions League play-off looming and the domestic season underway, the pressure is on the Parkhead board to deliver the quality Rodgers has been pushing for all summer – let’s hope that they do just that.

  1. Celtic got millions for the Frimpong sale when he went to liverpool but would rather count money than spend it

  2. Not a matter of counting money they know it will cost them more Celtic board will spend but prices are well over the top you will see prices go down in a week Clubs know the value of players will drop if they dont go this window and the will sit there getting paid be we have brought in players and will bring in more but they have to be the right price we cant afford mistakes

  3. The Celtic fans need to learn from the Idah, Engels and Trusty signings. Any spend over 5 million must be a good investment and fit inside the Celtic model. A break from the model jeopardizes our success.
