Stephen Welsh is on track to make the Celtic squad for their Scottish Cup final against Rangers on Saturday.
After sustaining a shoulder injury during the Scottish Premiership trophy day victory over St Mirren, Welsh’s participation in the upcoming final was in doubt.
Initially, his injury seemed severe enough to sideline him for the crucial match at Hampden Park. He was in a sling for the post-match celebrations and cup lift.
However, after a recent scan that cleared him to resume training, the 24-year-old defender is now doing light training and is expected to rejoin Brendan Rodgers’ squad for full training within the next 24 hours, provided there are no setbacks. [RecordSport]
Celtic’s defensive duo, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales, have been the first-choice pairing this season and are likely to start in the final. If Welsh continues to progress in his recovery without any adverse reactions, he is expected to be an option off the bench for the match against Rangers.
