Steve Clarke, the Scotland manager, praised the 32-year-old as an excellent example for younger players, highlighting his perseverance and professionalism during a challenging few seasons at Celtic.

Forrest’s resurgence in form towards the end of the season has not only helped Celtic clinch another cinch Premiership title but also positioned him as a player almost certain to start in Saturday’s Scottish Cup final against Rangers. His impressive performances have caught Clarke’s eye, earning him a spot in the provisional 28-man squad for Euro 2024, which will be narrowed down to 26 players by June 7.

Clarke praised Forrest’s exemplary attitude during times when he was out of favour, stating, “James Forrest. Where do you start?,” he said on Sky Sports News.

“If ever there is an example to young players on how to conduct yourself if things are not going well for you at your club, James epitomises that.

“Train well, work well, keep your head down, keep believing and you never know, maybe the head coach will pick you for your country and that’s what he’s done.

“He has had a fantastic finish to the season. He has caught the manager’s eye and again he will be one that grabs your attention with the finish to the season.

“You think, ‘wow, James is back to where he was three or four years ago which is a credit to him and something I didn’t think I could overlook.

“He obviously brings experience, he was part of the squad in the last Euros so it will be nice to see James again.”

James Forrest is fully deserving of a place on the place to Germany next month, but his focus will remain on the Scottish Cup final on Saturday.
