STEVE CLARKE has talked up Calum McGregor after his starring performances on the international stage.

The Celtic captain has consistently performed well in a Celtic jersey for years. So much so that Brendan Rodgers was keen to take him to Leicester with him. I’m a firm believer that Calmac is one of the best midfielders in the UK, and he could walk into most Premier League midfields.

He’s one of the most underrated players in recent times. The way he controls the game, linking the defence to the attack, is immense. His wide range of accurate passing is a gift to the player, and the team benefit from it.

The player has been pivotal to both Celtic’s and Scotland’s success this season, and last season with Scotland, scoring their only goal of the Euros.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer, Steve Clarke praised the midfielder, saying;

“That’s probably why Callum got player of the year this year because he was outstanding.

“He’s always been good; I’ve always enjoyed working with Callum. John McGinn obviously catches a lot of the headlines because he scores goals, and he’s done great for us.

“I think whether we got there by luck or good judgement, I’ll leave for other people to decide, but suddenly you end up with a midfield of Callum McGregor and Billy Gilmour.

“And suddenly, for a Scottish national team, we had a team that could control the ball, play and get people breaking in. That improved us as a team.”

McGregor is a super midfielder. He’ll look to be influential in Scotland’s upcoming World Cup qualifier against Ukraine, before hopefully progressing to play Wales.
