It’s being reported tonight Celtic are on the brink of signing Steven Fletcher on a free.

There have been murmurings of a deal being done for the past 24 hours but now it looks like both sides are closing in on a deal – the only sticking point is the length of the deal.

RecordSport have confirmed tonight both Celtic and Fletcher have held talks and he’s close to becoming a Celtic player over ten years after the club failed to sign him from Hibernian.

It’s not known if this will have any affect on the deal for Ajeti or Toney. This could be a signing for cover with Fletcher replacing Bayo in the squad.

If Fletcher is the only striker coming in, the club can expect a large collective groan from the Celtic support.

A cheap option would be seen as the ultimate Peter Lawwell move. With little outlay needed for Fletcher, it could prove a useful deal but not something anyone is going to get excited about.

If you were to be told Fletcher signs and Celtic keeps Edouard in this window, most supporters would take that.
