Former Ibrox star Stevie Naismith claims Celtic wee every lucky not to concede a penalty in the first half against Dundee Utd when the game was poised at 1-1.

The game would finish a draw but the Hearts player believes Celtic have got away with one when Cameron-Carter Vickers brought Nicky Clark down in the box

Kevin Clancy waved play on but a case could be made for a penalty being given

“It’s a stonewall penalty,” Naismith said on Sportscene. “Yes, the referee has a lot of bodies in front of him, but he should not be getting that wrong.

“It was such a big decision in the context of the game.”

Verdict

If it was against Celtic, I would certainly feel aggrieved if we didn’t get the penalty.

Celtic don’t get many refereeing decisions for them like that and will count themselves lucky Clancy or the linesman didn’t flag for the penalty.

It was a frustrating afternoon for Celtic who huffed and puffed in the second half but ultimately dropped another two points – this time at home.

Celtic trail hearts and Hibs by five points and their Glasgow rivals be six. It’s a long way back at the moment.

  1. Naismith talking rubbish , yes it would have been a penalty if taken in isolation, but look at it again, immediately before this incident Starfelt was fouled blatantly by a Dundee United player and should have been given as a foul to Celtic ( look at it again and you will see ).

    • Exactly what I said. But it doesn’t suit the agenda. Why no big outcry when the huns got gifted a blatant offside goal last week. Or we got robbed of a good goal at tyncastle they see what they want

  2. Celtic should have had the earlier foul granted but it is a penalty if you are looking at the tackle. We were lucky. Best chance of the latter part of the game was for United who had 2 men in the box facing 1 celtic player either man should have scored yet the player in position played a poor pass. They had better chances late in the game. Season is done. Ange just waiting for the sack. It is a certainty. 93 points to play for. Celtic have 10. we will need at least 90 to have a chance of winning the league, possibly closer to 95 meaning Celtic need to win 26 and draw 2 or 3 of the remaining games. With this team, you must be joking. They won’t win 2 of their next 3.

    • Season is done John??? Aye is that coz therangers are that good??? Ange just waiting for the sack as well?? Away and have a wee word with yourself John!!!
Once we get even 50% of the players we have on the sidelines back we will start breathing down the necks of whoever is top,and if we get a full squad back then god help the rest of the league. HH
PS with so called fans like yourself, who needs the many detractors we have in the SMSM trying to deraill us.(just saying like)
