CELTIC fans have been frustrated with the lack of young players getting a chance in recent times. The pathway from the reserve side to the first team has never seemed so closed off.

The club is currently trying to convince the lower leagues to allow a colt side to join them so they have a reasonable outlet for young players to get experience.

One man who has finally got first team football this season is Luca Connell. The midfielder has been overlooked for any game time at Celtic before it was confirmed on Thursday, the former Bolton boy had been loaned out to Queens Park.

It’s a case of better late than never for the Luca who has today earned rave reviews and was given the man of the match for his debut outing for the Glasgow club.

Queens Park won 3-0 against Stranraer at Hampden, the youngster grabbing an assist on his first professional start in two years and just his eleventh first team appearance of his career.

Celtic fans are delighted the young lad has hit the ground running and they’ve been reacting on Saturday night to his performance.

A Bolton Wanderers Fan wrote: “Strange one with Celtic’s season being bad he hasn’t been given a chance, must be some way off first team if he’s been loaned out though man. Was a standout for Bolton in league one as well before his move seems like a backwards move now when you look at it.”

Not all young players have the temperament or the talent to make it at Celtic but right now, they can’t even get an opportunity.

Hopefully Luca and others will now be given that chance in the coming months when a new manager comes into the club.

  1. Lets not go overboard-would be worrying if a Celtic player wasnt outstanding at that level.

The lack of any quality coming through our youth system in last 10-15 years-KT apart-is a major concern
