It’s not something you’re likely to see very often but on Friday night Celtic Park will play host to not one but two former Celtic Managers as they both try to get their respective countries to the European Championships.

Both men having had great success at Celtic Park in their times at the club.

There are strong Celtic connections in this game for both sides not just at manager level but even their assistants have pulled on the hoops jersey in years gone by. Celtic captain Scott Brown will proudly put on his Scotland jersey and lead his countrymen into battle against current Celtic striker Anthony Stokes alongside former players such as Robbie Keane and a product of our youth system in Aiden McGeady.

Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon will most certainly not be between the sticks on Friday night, that honour will go to another Celtic youth product in the form of David Marshall. The goalkeeper has proved to be a solid replacement for Craig Gordon and Alan McGregor who both have succumbed to frequent injury’s.

Martin O’Neill and his former and current Celts will have the strange situation of being in the away dressing room – something they certainly wont be accustomed to.

It’s sure to be a hot atmosphere under the lights of Celtic Park as Scotland try to keep pace with Ireland in a very tough group. Gordon Strachan believes his players can get the result they want with a large home crowd backing them from the off.

Scotland’s fire has been stoked under the current regime and they will certainly give the Irish a run for their money.
