Celtic have tonight put out a strong statement confirming they’re in favour of the winter break being pushed forward rather than playing the three games between Christmas and New Year with only 500 supporters present.

The news of new restrictions today has got everyone hard, especially those who’ve been following the rules and getting their vaccines.

It’s a massive step backwards; the prospect of behind closed door football is not appealing to anyone.

The club have made that clear with their statement on Tuesday evening:

Everyone at Celtic recognises the difficulties presented to society by the current pandemic and the health and safety of all must always be our priority.

In light of today’s announcement regarding supporters attending matches, Celtic can confirm that it has today requested that the SPFL bring forward the scheduled winter break and reschedule the fixtures affected by the regulations announced.

The game owes it to supporters to explore all opportunities to maximise the prospect of all supporters being able to attend matches and support the game they love.

It’s unclear what will happen next.

The games that would be affected by this initial three week period of heightened restrictions would be St Johnstone (a), Hibs (h) and The Rangers (h).

There’s no telling what will happen beyond mid-January. Most people will be in support of Celtic’s statement.

We were going into a winter break at the start of January anyway, let’s pull it forward and give fans the chance to return.

Now in the last few minutes we understand St Mirren have asked for Wednesday’s game against Celtic to be called off.

  1. Good idea by the Celtic board. However I very much doubt the governing bodies will take any heed of our request as it will impact badly on our new neighbours from the south side as we will have our injured players fit and new signings in by the restart

  2. It is time all football fans send a message to Sturgeon that we won’t accept being whipping boys every time she decides to shut down supporters at matches. I for one will never vote SNP again as I have done for over 25 years. It just seems that she blames fans for the spread of COVID yet a large part of the country still don’t have their vaccines. She is useless as a leader and can’t even explain where £millions have gone missing. Despite her Celtic will overcome every obstacle she puts in our way C.O.Y.B.I.G

  3. Covid is spreading, workplaces are decimated through staff absences. The NHS could potentially be overwhelmed. What on earth makes you think football fans are being blamed for Covid? All sports are subject to the restrictions. Are you stupid enough to think its only Scotland who has introduced these measures? Have you a clue whats going on elsewhere in Europe? Perhaps you prefer Boris? Honestly….
