STUART ARMSTRONG is one of the Celtic players who have been allowed to head out on the two-match friendly series with Scotland this summer.

The other three Celts chosen are Jack Hendry, Ryan Christie and Lewis Morgan – three lads who could be doing with the experience more than anything.

This leaves Armstrong on an island of his own while the likes of Leigh Griffiths, James Forrest and Craig Gordon are given the time off after a hectic domestic season.

Did Armstrong push to go with Scotland after Brendan Rodgers’ initial talks with Alex McCliesh OR do Rodgers and Armstrong know something we don’t?

It is peculiar that Rodgers has allowed Armstrong to go and kept the others behind so they can get a longer break before early qualifiers.

After only signing a one-year extension to his contract last year, Armstrong again goes into this summer with just one-year left on his current deal – are Celtic about to cash in on the midfielder?

Admittedly this season has not been the best season for Armstrong after the invincible season last year – he has struggled with injuries and form.

Celtic fans seemed a bit irked at the time that the Scot would only commit to another year rather than sign on a new long-term deal.

Many speculated that this gave both parties breathing space to work out a proper deal this year but as players continue to be signed up by Celtic; Bain and Ajer being the latest, it’s all quiet on the Armstrong front.

Is the reason he’s allowed to head out with Scotland anything to do with his future lying away from Celtic?

This is just out loud thinking on our part. Would you like to see Armstrong sign a new deal?

  1. Would like him to stay as I rate him highly. He hasn’t had much game time through injury so maybe that’s why Brendan is happy for him to go.

  2. Chase him,he’s mediocre at best, gives the ball away far too much, he thinks he’s better than he is,not worth having this nonsense every couple of years. Chase him.

  3. Maybe hes going with scotland as he missed most of second half of season thru injury hopefully its for game time to get him up ti speed for qualifiers HH

  4. I would like Stuart to stay with Celtic, The guy has had a stop start time of it with injuries, He is a quality player who gives us something different going forward.

  5. Personally, i’d luv him to stay. He’s got everything as a modern day footballer and will get better. Injury has blighted this season and perhaps getting ‘game time’ with Scotland will sharpen him up for our 4 CLQs.?

  6. Heart not in Paradise. Offer him to Southampton and get Fraser Forster back. We need to rebuild our defence and find another goalie. Too many mediocre midfielders. Time to spend serious dough on quality.

The Dundee Utd experiment has been a complete failure. Those we signed weren’t good enough for Celtic. GMS, Shift Key, etc. Like Willow Flood before them they never realised the potential that somebody saw in them. People who play out of their skin against us can’t replicate it in the hoops.
Pay Rogic and let Armstrong go wherever he wants.

  7. Let Armstrong Go,He tried to hold our Club to ransom.Just signing a 12month extension. That showed he has his Eye elsewhere. He doesnt play for the jersey,Money is his motivation,Obviously..

  8. I would like him to sign a 2-3 year contract.

If he wants to go then we should accept no less than £4 million, which would be reasonable under the circumstances.
