Stuart Armstrong’s Stock Continues to Rise

It didn’t seem so long ago when there was a very real debate if Stuart Armstrong could actually break through into Brendan Rodgers first team and stay there.

The Scottish midfielder started on the outskirts of the manager’s plans at the start of the season but quickly made inroads to getting back into the side. No one saw the best of Stuart under former Celtic manager Ronny Deila who regularly played the central midfielder out of position. Rodgers had no such problems with playing him straight through the middle and he’s been an entirely different player since.

Building on each performance, Armstrong has become a mainstay in the Celtic starting XI, his performances were inevitably going to spill over into International duty.

Last night, the midfielder made his Scotland bow and turned in a man of the match performance against Slovenia. Gordon Strachan’s side managed a one nil victory with a goal two minutes from time that keeps their World cup hopes alive for now.

Armstrong’s performance throughout the game will certainly see him keep his place in the Scotland side when the next qualifying fixtures come around. Let’s hope he continues his rich vein of form this weekend against Hearts.
