Deadline day signing Luke McCowan made his Celtic debut in today’s 3-0 thrashing of Rangers.

The midfielder replaced Reo Hatate for the final 15 minutes of this afternoon’s match and did himself proud.

The 26-year-old never shied out of a tackle and gave his all.

It has been a whirlwind 72 hours for McCowan, who eventually signed for his boyhood club on Friday evening.

The Hoops paid fellow Scottish Premiership side Dundee £1m plus add-ons for his services in what looks to have been a shrewd piece of business.

McCowan will prove to be an adept addition to Brendan Rodgers’ squad and was delighted to make his Parkhead bow this afternoon.

“[It was] the stuff of dreams, really”, he said (Sky Sports).

“If you could tell me as a kid that I’m going to come on in a game of that magnitude I wouldn’t have believed you.

“It’s an amazing achievement for me and my family but most importantly, it’s three points for the team.”

His signing didn’t entail the money or glamour of Arne Engels’, but McCowan could prove equally as vital as the Belgian midfielder.

He didn’t look out of place in his brief cameo today and going forward, will want to push the likes of Paulo Bernardo and Reo Hatate for places in the team.
