In what has to be the most surreal finds from past rumours – an article from SunSport has re-emerged from back in 2017 when The Rangers were looking for a new manager.

In the report, Ange Postecoglou was linked with the Ibrox role but the paper also revealed the Glasgow club were swept to miss out on the Australian who was set to head to Japan to manage Yokohama Marinos.

The link between Ange and The Rangers was made after the Australian quit as Socceroos boss. At the time, Ange knew he wanted to leave and manage somewhere else outside Australia, as we know, he landed in Japan before being picked up by Celtic in the summer of 2021.

In some sort of alternate reality, Ange could have been the manager of our Glasgow rivals. Obviously it’s easy to say now it just doesn’t fit but given what we know about the manager, Celtic and Postecoglou are a match made in heaven in a lot of respects both in football philosophy and socially.

Ange wasn’t Celtic’s first choice, everyone knows that including Ange. When he took the job in the summer Postecoglou made it clear he didn’t care he if he was tenth choice. He was given the opportunity and he relished the chance.

The rebuild the gaffer has undertaken has been huge. We’ve gone from title no hopers to within touching distance of getting our league title back at the first time of asking. Not too bad at all.
