CHRIS SUTTON believes fans wrote of Giorgos Giakoumkis too early in his Celtic career. The striker is now the only first-team one available to Postecoglou but has shown his qualities with two goals in two games.
After a disastrous start to life at Celtic, with injuries preventing him from getting minutes and a penalty miss looming in fans’ minds, fans reacted in fear that the previous season’s Eredivisie top scorer was destined to be another flop. Sutton reflects this, writing in his Daily Record collum;
“It’s been a tough beginning for him at Celtic and he’s not had much luck. He had issues when he arrived, he got injured in the warm-up against Raith Rovers and then he missed the penalty against Livingston.
“It was the worst possible start for him and some people were a bit too quick to write him off. This is a player who scored a ton of goals in Holland, and it wasn’t for a team that would have been dominating play and creating lots of chances.
“There’s no doubt he had a rotten start in Scotland but fair play to him. Giakoumakis has got himself fit and he looks determined to make an impact.”
However, Sutton is extremely guilty of judging a player too early in their Celtic career. Carl Starfelt had a slow start to life at Celtic, but the more games he played the better the defender gets.
His debut was far from impressive, but let’s be honest, the whole team was anything but impressive. Instead of holding his hands up, and admitting he is wrong, the former Celtic striker still looks to criticise the Swedish international at any given opportunity.
Carl Starfelt has turned things around at Celtic and has shown he is a top defender. The ridiculous claims that Stephen Welsh is a better player are just false.
Starfelt deserves the praise he is due and a few personal appologies.
Starfelt at fault again for the Hearts goal on Wednesday night. Lets call a spade a spade here and this websites attempts at papering over the cracks of what a poor defender Starfelt is does not do itself any favours. 4.5 million quid was paid for this charlatan.
Starfelt is the new Efe Ambrose with at least one major mistake per match in him. Delusion will not alter that fact.
