Chris Sutton has branded Brendan Rodgers’ latest press conference “box office” after the Celtic manager hit back at anonymous briefings against him from within the club.

Rodgers was asked about the newspaper report that claimed senior figures at Parkhead believed he was “engineering an exit” and “tearing the club apart.” The Celtic boss didn’t hold back, describing the leak as a “cowardly action” and urging whoever was responsible to speak to him directly.

He also called for an investigation to take place and for the individual who briefed the tabloids to hand in their resignation.

Sutton, reacting on social media, summed up the moment in typically sharp fashion, posting: “This is Box Office.”

The former Celtic striker has been a consistent defender of Rodgers in recent weeks, siding with him amid growing tension between the manager and the board.

With Rodgers publicly taking aim at those briefing against him, the war of words inside Celtic Park is unlikely to quieten down any time soon.

Rodgers is right: there should be an investigation launched into the matter. It’s completely out of order, from whoever it was, and downright disrespectful not only to Rodgers but to everyone else at the club.

It’s doubtful that we, the Celtic fans, will ever find out exactly who it was.

  1. How certain is it that this isn’t the orange press trying to add to the problems at Parkhead with the board ????
