Usually it’s Chris Sutton that has our attention when it comes to Celtic matters but in today’s Daily Record his brother John is giving the bhoys some advice ahead of their Champions League qualifier in Armenia.
The striker recalled his visit to play Alashkert in a Europa League qualifier with St Johnstone back in 2015.
The Saints were put out by the Armenian side on goal difference and John’s overriding memory of Yerevan was the heat.
“I know players like to moan when it’s too hot but in Yerevan it was at another level. It was completely overwhelming.” John recalled.
“It was about 40 degrees and the hottest I’ve ever felt it on a football pitch.”
It does affect the game and the way you play. It’s so muggy the sweat is pouring out of you during the warm-up.
“And there’s no way you can play at the same pace you do in Scotland out there as the humidity completely drains you.
“It makes it a slower game and they will be used to it but Celtic will know what needs to be done.”
Celtic will head over to Armenia first before the return leg the following week.
Brendan Rodgers will be confident but the club will be doing their homework to avoid players suffering in the heat.
The game is just over three weeks away and the bhoys have ample time to prepare.
