CHRIS SUTTON has warned Celtic fans and the Celtic board they are one more lousy transfer window away from losing their grip on the SPFL trophy.
Using his RecordSport Column, the former Celtic striker believes more ‘dithering’ in the January transfer window will see the club relinquish control of the title to their Glasgow rivals.
“Celtic fans might scoff at the notion Rangers are in title contention but they better start to face facts.
“Rangers are in the race and unless there’s serious work done at Parkhead during this transfer window they are in big danger of getting pipped at the line.
“Never mind this week’s big games, the Premiership could be won and lost in January.
“If Rangers find the cash to bring in someone like Dominic Solanke and Celtic dither again, they will pay the ultimate price.”
I’m all for a Chris Sutton who speaks his mind but this is 100% hyperbole from the BT Pundit.
The Ifs and Buts in this scenario are off the charts.
If a club who just posted £14million losses can bring in some top stars on top money, they may be able to topple a Celtic side who don’t sign anyone of note in the window.
Well, it’s true the board must now act to improve Rodgers squad, there are not many Celtic fans who believe the title is in any real peril. Is that foolish or have we seen this all play out before?
Chris should know the score. Celtic fans want to see progression in Europe, and with that, we need players who can come in and make a real difference against Valencia.
The Rangers are close to Celtic because of the bhoys away form. The only major threat to Celtic in the SPFL is Celtic.
Had Pedro Caixinha or Mark Warburton found themselves in a league with Celtic on current away form they would be as close as Gerrard – that’s the reality. The Glasgow club is no better off.
Celtic will kick on in January and show why they are the team to beat.
What he has said is accurate, and celtics away form is also because of the lack of spending, which is exactly what Sutton is saying. We have scoffed that they have no money to spend, but still manage to continue to get players in. So sign some players and take control.
To suggest what he says is “off the charts” is ridiculous. We have to treat the threat as real and extinguish it in the window.
