Kyogo Furuhashi’s first-time volley was the difference at Ibrox as Celtic defeated their city rivals by a goal to nil. In the match, there were several standout performances in the champions’ team.

Particularly at the back, Liam Scales was terrific. The Irishman, who joined from Shamrock Rovers for half a million in 2021, nullified the Gers’ attack and after the match, spoke to Sky Sports. He said: “It’s hard coming here we felt in the first half we dominated a lot of the ball. We felt we defended well when they had the ball. We showed a lot of character.”

In a game such as this one, showing character is key. Scales and his teammates have done just that today. The 25-year-old played with Gustaf Lagerbielke at the heart of the defence, with the pair continuing to develop a fresh partnership. On this, Scales quipped: “We’ve sort of been thrown together in the past few games but we’ve kept to clean sheets. It takes a while to get used to how we play but it feels good.”

Going forward, Scales will continually look to impress and keep his place in the Hoops’ team. He will have vast competition when players such as Carter-Vickers and Nawrocki are back fit, though.
