Talented young winger Ben Quinn has signed for newly promoted English League One outfit Mansfield Town on a one-year deal following the expiration of his contract at Celtic.

It comes after the 19-year-old spent pre-season on trial with the side, impressing manager Nigel Clough enough to warrant a contract.

Last term, Quinn made 31 appearances for the Hoops’ B side, scoring 11 goals and assisting two. Adept on both wings, the Irishman has represented his country at youth level.

His new side Mansfield finished third in England’s fourth tier last season, earning them a place in League One for the new campaign.

Quinn will look to dab his hand down south and will be playing alongside his Uncle this year. 38-year-old Stags midfielder Stephen Quinn is entering his fifth full season with the club and will be keen to take his nephew under his wing.

Monitoring the youngster’s progress in his first season in senior professional football should be intriguing. Players usually sink or swim when they make the step up; let’s hope Quinn channels his inner Michael Phelps.
