The World Game is linking Celtic with a move for Australian midfielder Aaron Mooy with the player deeply unhappy in China playing for Shanghai Port.

The former Huddersfield town and Man City man is having to live under strict rules in the country and has been kept away from his family.

Mooy, 30, moved to China for big wages but like many of these deals, the player is reportedly looking for a way out.

Celtic’s nee boss Ange Postedoglou knows the player well and could see Mooy as the experience he would like in the middle of the park next season.

The World Game are saying there’s talk in Shanghai of a Celtic move for the Australian but there’s two major obstacles; Aaron’s fee and his wages. Unless Shanghai will take a pittance for their player and Aaron chooses to take a large reduction in wages – it’s a no go. TransferMarkt have the midfielder valued at £7m.

The site writes: It was only a big money offer that resulted in last August’s move to Shanghai Port in China.

There has already been talk in Shanghai of a possible Celtic approach and the club would be unlikely to play hardball.

Celtic links to Australian and Japanese talent is bound to happen but is it realistic? The media put two and two together sometimes and come up with a very wrong answer.

When Rodgers was the boss, we were constantly linked with players he used to work with at various clubs. When Deila was the boss we were linked with a lot of Norwegian players – very few actually made the move.
