Celtic Women’s coach Elena Sadiku expressed a mix of satisfaction and frustration following a goalless draw against rivals Rangers in a critical SWPL match at Broadwood.
Despite the stalemate, which leaves the title race finely poised, Sadiku was assertive in her belief that Celtic were the superior side and should have secured a victory.
The intense matchup, which could have tilted the league’s balance, saw both teams struggle to capitalise on their chances, but Celtic had the better of the opportunities, despite Rangers rattling the bar twice from long range.
Celtic created clearer chances, with Natasha Flint notably missing at least two big chances to put her team ahead.
Reflecting on the match, Sadiku highlighted the limited threats posed by Rangers, downplaying their performance despite the close scoreline. “I’m happy with the performance. Obviously, Rangers had two shots off the cross-bar from distance. That was that. But otherwise, they had nothing,” Sadiku stated in a post-match interview with PLZ.
She continued to emphasize her team’s missed opportunities, suggesting a win was within reach based on the quality and number of chances created. “We had chances we should have scored from, so even if we should be ‘happy’ with the point because we’re still top of the league, I think we should have won,” she added.
The draw keeps Celtic at the top of the table, thanks to their superior goal difference of 13. With only three games remaining and the title still undecided, every match, point and goal becomes exponentially crucial.
This could well be the year that Celtic win the first-ever SWPL title.
