While Celtic supporters were glued to deadline day developments and late-night transfer twists, Henrik Larsson was spending his weekend on the golf course rather than watching the clock tick down.
Larsson was taking part in the Icons Series, where Team England edged out Team World by the narrowest of margins to retain their Reignwood Icons of Football title with a 20–19 victory. The tournament format mirrored the Ryder Cup, with each match played over 10 holes using match play scoring. A win earned a point for the team, with a bonus point available for any match won by four holes or more, adding extra jeopardy to every pairing.
Former Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart played a key role for Team England, securing a crucial point that ultimately proved decisive in such a tight contest. His contribution helped tip the balance as England just managed to hold off a late push from Team World.
For Celtic fans, however, much of the attention was on Larsson. The Swede was inevitably recognised by spectators lining the fairways.
As Larsson stepped up to tee off, one heckler attempted to provoke a reaction by shouting: “You should’ve signed for Rangers.” The response was immediate and perfectly measured. Larsson took a step back, looked up and calmly replied: “That’s a lie.”
Absolutely brilliant from the King of Kings
