Tomorrow maybe flag day for Celtic but Ronny Deila is getting down to the nitty gritty as he looks to shape his squad for the season.

With Champions League qualifiers coming thick and fast there has been little time to stop and think since the short pre-season but Ronny has a clear idea of who he wants at Celtic Park and unfortunately for some he also knows who he doesn’t want.

One player falling into the unwanted category is Republic of Ireland International and long time bhoy Anthony Stokes. The forward was used consistently by Ronny last season but found himself wide on Ronny’s favourite three up top formation. A role that the player finds difficult to fill. Since then GMS and Armstrong have came in and can fill that role better that the Irishman.

It is now being reported that Ronny has told the player he is surplus to requirements and told him he can leave before the window closes if the right bid comes in. This has alerted several English Championship clubs as well as a couple of Premiership sides looking to bolster their own attacking options.

Stokes has played down south before – once a trainee of Arsenal and he’s also played in a Roy Keane Sunderland side when ironically he knocked back Celtic to sign for the Black Cats all those years ago.

The striker has always been a good option for all Celtic managers he’s played under but he definitely had his best spell at the club when he linked up with former Celtic striker Gary Hooper. The two players could read each other very well and were devastating at times. Since then he’s found it hard at times to make a similar impact but he’s always gave 100% for the cause.
