Norwich City boss Jess Thorup has made it clear that Adam Idah remains firmly in his plans, despite the ongoing speculation and recent tensions between him and fans. Idah came on as a late sub for Norwich on Saturday and was jeered every time he was on the ball.
Speaking after Norwich’s defeat today, Thorup addressed the situation with a measured tone. “He is definitely part of my plans,” Thorup told Canary TV. “He had a good camp in Austria. He came back into the group, of course it took some meetings to make it clear what we expect stepping into the start of the season and the rest of the transfer window.”
Thorup acknowledged the incident that led to Idah missing last week’s flight to Germany, which saw him dropped from the squad for the friendly against Hoffenheim. “It looks like he’s ready to do whatever it takes, accepting his role but also accepting that he was not part of the team in Hoffenheim,” Thorup explained. “That’s how it is. We should expect sometimes that players step a little bit out of what we can expect. It’s important that we show that’s not acceptable but it’s also important that we show when time is gone, then they can get back into the group again and that’s where Adam is.”
The new Norwich boss’ comments suggest a willingness to move forward, but the situation is far from resolved. Norwich are clearly holding firm, making it evident they won’t let Idah go without significant compensation. The Canaries are prepared to keep the unsettled striker if Celtic don’t meet their financial demands, a fee that could rival the Scottish club’s record transfer outlay.
With the new season rapidly approaching, the pressure is mounting on all parties. Celtic will need to decide whether they’re willing to hang around for Idah, or if they’ll turn their attention elsewhere. Meanwhile, Idah must navigate his immediate future at Carrow Road, with the possibility of a move to Parkhead still hanging in the balance.
