French Eddy is one of Celtic’s most prized possessions. Adored by fans, his manager and teammates it makes the £30m price tag almost insulting.

The French hitman has scored 27 goals this season and 61 goals in 125 appearances in total for the club. As impressive as those numbers are they don’t really shed any light on the importance of some of his goals or that he is a big-game player. When the pressure is on, Edouard delivers.

The English have spent decades insulting the game in Scotland and a £30m transfer bid is probably not the worse thing to travel up from the South. With Edouard going into the last two years of his contract it is probably wise of other clubs to start testing the water. All Celtic fans want to hear a new deal announced with their star man and there have been reports of negotiations.

In the most uncertain times for all football teams, hacks need to find stories to fill their back pages but the transfer chatter around Edouard is gathering pace of late. It is not just Leicester either. Arsenal and various French clubs have propped up in the headlines over the past few months.

Brendan Rodgers brought Odsonne to Celtic Park for £9m after a season-long loan from PSG. You would imagine Rodgers had a bit of a battle with Peter Lawwell to hand over that amount of money on one player. So it’s not completely unrealistic to think that Rodgers will pay the asking price to bring the forward to England, especially with the season the player is having.

These are uncertain times and a lot of clubs will do well to weather the current storm. Celtic seem to be in good standing but if this pandemic is still causing havoc in June/July how tempting will a £30m cheque be?

The best thing that can happen at this time is the club announce an extended contract for the fan favourite.
